Indeed, it can be so intimidating to some that, despite a token desire to advance, they will do whatever they can to stay within the comfort zone, even if that involves making the comfort zone uncomfortable!

If we can see ourselves being successful in our mind’s eye, our subconscious counts this as a positive experience and hence adjusts our self-image accordingly. This may sound a little strange to some, but positive visualisation is a scientifically proven tool that is much used in elite level sport. Additionally, virtually every successful person I’ve ever met, regardless of their chosen field of excellence, makes use of this tool to some degree. Numerous scientific studies have shown that positive visualisation can have a marked effect on self-image and performance.

I can then return to my writing with more energy and renewed enthusiasm.
